Psalm 121

PRAYER & READING

Morning Prayer

O God, my Father, who helps me to be a light in this world, help me throughout this day to be a help and example to all who I meet today.

Help me to bring comfort to those who are in sorrow, and strength to those in trouble.

Help me to bring courage to those who are afraid, and guidance to those who do not know what to do.

Help me to bring cheer to those who are discouraged, and encouragement to those who are depressed.

As I go through this day help me to show a glimpse of you Lord to those I meet.

This I ask for your love's sake.

Amen

 Psalm 121

New King James Version

God the Help of Those Who Seek Him

A Song of Ascents.

121 I will lift up my eyes to the hills—
From whence comes my help?
2 My help comes from the Lord,
Who made heaven and earth.

3 He will not allow your foot to be moved;
He who keeps you will not slumber.
4 Behold, He who keeps Israel
Shall neither slumber nor sleep.

5 The Lord is your keeper;
The Lord is your shade at your right hand.
6 The sun shall not strike you by day,
Nor the moon by night.

7 The Lord shall preserve you from all evil;
He shall preserve your soul.
8 The Lord shall preserve
 your going out and your coming in
From this time forth, and even forevermore.

Evening Prayer

Eternal and everblessed God, I give you thanks, as this day comes to an end, for those who mean so much to me, and without whom my life could never be the same.

I thank you for those friends and family I can go at any time, and never feel a nuisance.

I thank you that I can go to them when I am tired, knowing that they have the gift of rest to help me.

I thank you for their company to chat, and keep nothing back, knowing that they will not laugh at my dreams or mock my failures.

I thank you for those in whose presence it is easier to do the right thing.

I thank you for those who's company is enjoyable and any bitterness is soothed.

I thank you for those who by their friendly warnings and rebukes have kept me from mistakes I might have made.

And above all I thank you for Jesus, the pattern of my life, the Lord of my heart and Saviour of my soul.

Accept this my thanksgiving, and grant me a good night's rest : through Jesus Christ my Lord.

Amen
